Shakespeare, though he did not attend University, was England’s greatest poet and playwright. He started writing plays in 1595. All his plays were written in iambic pentameter. His very first play was called ‘The Comedy of Errors’. He wrote a total of thirty eight plays and his greatest plays were his tragedies, which include Hamlet, Macbeth, and King Lear. Shakespeare’s best known plays include: Henry IV (parts 1 and 2), Richard II and Julius Caesar. He also wrote a lot of great comedies, i.e. ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, ‘As You Like It’, and ‘The Merry Wives of Windsor’. Hence worth, even though Shakespeare didn't attend University, he was master of the English language leading him to being England’s greatest poet and playwright.
